23.11.2021Here we show how to install the upper pad and arm rest cover on the door of a P1800S model year 1968 US model.
The door panels of our test car are in adequate condition to keep them.
First remove all screws.
Now the window crank can be removed. We used our special tool for "omega-clips".
Open the quarter window.
Carefully pull the upper cover upwards away.
Remove the upper door panel.
Remove the two screws holding the support rail of the arm rest.
Remove the rail.
Carefully lever off the lower door panelusing an appropriate tool (we used an ice scraper).
Lower door panel and new arm rest cover.
Some wire clamps hold arm rest and lower door panel together.
Carefully open the clamps without damaging any of the parts. The clamps remain in the door panel.
Remove the drainage hose.
To remove the hose fitting you can cut the bracket.
Remove the fitting upwards.
Get rid of all loose parts of the old arm rest.
Test fit the cover several times until it perfectly suits the old arm rest. Remove the chrome trim to do this.
Degrease arm rest and cover.
Apply adhesive.
After putting the cover on the arm rest it should be fixed until the glue is dry. We used some sheet nuts but clamps etc. will work well too.
