Note for Volvo PV444 and PV445 Duett until approx. 1957:
Original wheel lug bolts and nuts with right-hand thread were mounted on the left side of these models, on the right side with left-hand thread. New brake drums always have pre-assembled wheel bolts with right-hand thread, so you may need new wheel nuts.

Service instructions:

Assembly of the rear brake drums:

- The bearing surface, i.e. the cone on the axle shaft and the drum, must be clean, free of rust and grease. When cleaning the surfaces do not remove any material.
- Fit the drum so that the groove in the drum and axle shaft are exactly above each other.
- Check the flat key: Measuring the height of the flat key and the grooves in the shaft and drum. It must have a small clearance and may have to be ground down slightly.
- Only now insert the flat key. The bevelled surface of the key must be at the top and point inwards (towards the wheel bearing).
- Tighten the crown nut with 120NM and continue turning until the next spline pin hole.
- Insert spline pin.
