NOS - New parts from old stock

12.12.2025

NOS parts for your Volvo or Saab

Whether you are restoring a classic car or driving a modern classic on a daily basis: anyone who owns a car that is more than fifteen years old will inevitably encounter problems with the availability of spare parts at some point.

While wear parts are usually available for several decades, special parts are often no longer available after just over ten years. If these are parts that were only available from the vehicle manufacturer, this can sometimes even be the case earlier. Whether it's seat covers, trim clips, or even headlights, which now come in many different designs, there is always something that is not available.

Some items can be reproduced, which we often do at SKANDIX. However, some things are not economically feasible because they are only in demand once in a blue moon. Or there is simply no usable sample available.

In such cases, it sometimes helps to visit parts markets, search the classified ads, or check the relevant forums. There, too, you can sometimes find something new, a so-called “new old stock” spare part. These are parts that have survived for decades in a workshop's warehouse or in a vehicle owner's attic without ever having been installed. In the case of a timing belt, the quality is certainly questionable, but in the case of a wiper motor or a trim strip, it is a good new part without any compromises.

You can also find such items at SKANDIX at regular intervals, with the only difference being that we do not offer twenty-year-old unusable timing belts. This is because we occasionally purchase complete selected stock, mostly from workshops or spare parts dealers that are going out of business and have no successor.

After thorough inspection and vehicle assignment, these NOS parts find their way into our shop, sometimes even as single items. This work can sometimes take quite a long time, sometimes up to a month for a pallet. So when a truck with 15 pallets of goods arrives from a parts dealer, it is quite possible that items from it will only appear in the shop two years later. We go to this great effort to make spare parts that have long since been discontinued available to you with the same reliability that you know from our new parts.

So if a part you are looking for for your Volvo or Saab is marked as “no longer available” in our shop, this does not mean that this part will never be available again. Whether as a well-stored original new part or as a reproduction, it is always worth checking back in our shop from time to time. You may find the rare item you have been searching for.

By the way, we regularly report on new reproductions here in our news section and in the new products section.
