Fuel pump seal for Saab 900 (-1993) and Saab 99

05.09.2025

In the Saab 900 with fuel injection engine up to 1989, the electric fuel pump is not located in a delivery unit under a sealed cover, as is the case in most cars: as so often, the Saab engineers had come up with something special.

The pump is located in a kind of sleeve, through the upper part of which it protrudes. The connections for the power supply and fuel line do not go to a cover and from there to the pump, but directly to the pump. The design is not only less prone to failure, it also makes removal easier, as only a hose clamp needs to be loosened and no special tools are required.

This sleeve, which is simply referred to as a “gasket” in the Saab parts catalog EPC, is made of a fairly durable rubber, but decades of contact with gasoline and gasoline vapors have usually caused it to become sticky and soft on the inside. In the worst case, it may be completely dissolved, which can result in gasoline leaks that are both dangerous and harmful to the environment.

We recommend replacing this seal when the fuel pump is due for replacement. The bellows (1028885) for the intake filter may also be defective; it is also made of rubber and is usually corroded. If it is leaking, the fuel pump cannot fully utilize the reserve in the tank and could also suck in coarse dirt and become damaged.

The sleeve – also known as the seal for the fuel pump – was unavailable for some time, but we have had it reproduced in Germany based on the original design. The material used is highly resistant to fuel and complies with standards used in tank construction.

In Saab 900 with B202 and B212, a gasket with a larger inner diameter is originally installed because the fuel pump had a larger diameter. For these models, we offer the gasket in a set with a matching pump and clamps. This set is available from us under the number 1103733.

The gasket for the fuel pump is now available individually in our shop under the number 1042086.

Suitable for the following vehicles:

  • Saab 900 (-1993): all models, engine B201-
  • Saab 99: all models, engine B201i, US version
