Repair Kit Gear Turret

Saab 9-3 (2003-)

09.02.2026

The most common reason for problems when changing gear is a worn joint in the gearshift bracket on the gearbox. This joint is mounted in a nylon sleeve. The nylon sleeve cannot withstand the load in the long term and wears out. Even minimal play in this joint causes problems when engaging the gears. The problems can be solved with this improved joint screw and the enclosed bushing.
In addition to the material included in the kit, a countersink with a diameter of approx. 16 mm is also required. If you do not yet have such a countersink in your workshop, you will find it in the recommended accessories of the repair kit.

Disassemble the gear turret according to manufacturer specifications.

Fix the turret in a vice.

Mill out the pressing of the axle with a countersink.

Drive out the shaft with the included mandrel.

This should drop out.

Remove the old plastic bushing.

Now you can see the cause of the damage. Oxidated aluminium compressed the bushing, which blocks the shaft.

Clean the eye with adequate workshop equipment.

Use the included screw, nut and washer to pull the new bushing into the eye. Do this carefully. The effort of the repair depends on this step!

Perfectly fitted bushing.

Attach the rocker actuator in the initial position.

Insert the new shaft from the ball end. A little bit of grease does not hurt.

Apply washer and nut. Tighten to app. 20 Nm (hand-tight).

Finished. Now the turret can be reassembled to the gear box.
