In the Saab 96 the fuel tank is placed between the spare wheel and the rear bench seat under the luggage space. For the achievement of the fuel gauge sender unit you only have to fold down the backseat bench and to dismantle the front floor of the luggage space. 
It`s better to dismantle the rear bench seat (picture), it easier to work and there are only four screws.
The fuel tank shouldn`t be full, better less than 2/3. Otherwise the thread sealant won`t do its job.

At first clear the luggage space and remove the floor cover by unbuttoning.

Now unscrew the three counterbored cross head screws in the front of the luggage space. Lift the floor a little bit and pull it out into the front direction.

Now the fuel tank is reachable. You better have cleaning clothes near by, because some drops of fuel are missing while taking of the fuel gauge sender unit. Pull off the two flat pin plus from the sensor and unscrew the five cross head screws of the cover plate.
After this you can take off the sender unit. While doing this, turn it a little bit down for getting the floater out of the fuel tank.

Set the new sender unit with a new gasket into the fuel tank. It only fits in one position, the hole pattern isn`t evenly distributed.

Set the new screws with liquid sealant, it is necessary for the correct sealing.

Our pictures shows the old genuine sender unit. With the new spare parts the brown cable is no longer needed. In that case put the brown cable beside and isolate it.
Push the grey-red cable on the enclosed adaptor and screw it on the pin. Don`t use to much torque for the nut, othewise the new sender unit is getting leak. Use a lock nut and a second wrench for holding against!

The remaining assembly occurs in reserved order.
