Exhaust manifolds and downpipes wrapped with heat wrap lead to hotter exhaust gases, which flow faster due to the lower density. This can lead to a better cylinder filling in higher performance petrol engines. Turbochargers can work more effectively.
The engine compartment remains cooler. In carburettor vehicles, steam bubble formation is prevented. In vehicles with catalytic converters, this is exposed to higher temperatures due to the hotter exhaust gases, which can cause early wear. Installation is best with stainless steel clamps.
