You can recognize a defect in the bushing by the fact that the drive shaft has excessive play in the differential. This causes defects in the shaft seal, and therefore a leak of oil between the gearbox and drive shaft. In the worst case, the differential will be destroyed on the inside.

The bushing supports the drive shaft in the differential. The differential itself is supported by taper roller bearings, which can also have play.

The bushing can be changed from the outside with a suitable extraction tool (adapter 1078462 with slide hammer 1074165) without having to remove the gearbox. Only the housing cover must be disassembled from the gearbox.

Caution: The bushing can be very tight, so that sometimes additional measures such as sawing the bushing may be necessary.

Tip: Shrink the new bushing in the freezer before pressing it in.

A new O-ring (1046549) and a new shaft seal (1009445, 1002999, 1018302) are required as part of the repair.
