The original body breather is stuck on many cars and lets water in if the car is not in the right position.
This part is designed without moving parts and with modified airflow. The usable air cross section is smaller, but water penetration is impossible - better dry and slightly ventilated than wet.
The spare part should be inserted all around with body sealant.
