SAAB J21/92

20.09.2023

SAAB climbing frame in Sweden.

Scrap-Nisses Playground | Skrotnisses lekplats
By children, for children. | Från Barn, för barn.

In a city steeped in Swedish cultural history and neo-modernity, the Saab not only appears on site in the context of the former Saab factory or the Saab Museum, but new generations can also playfully engage with the nostalgia of the car manufacturer there.

Based on the children's book by Jan Lööf "Skrot-Nisse", published in 1976, a child communicated the idea of a very specific playground to the city by letter. Trollhättan complied with the creative idea and let one school class in particular have the upper hand in the design. Detailed work was done by Jan Lööf, the creator of the story, and Lars-Åke Kylén, the director of the film version of the book.

The setting around the "Skrotgård", i.e. the scrap yard of the scrap dealer Skrot-Nisse also adorns a not insignificant detail. In reference to the Saab company and its aircraft construction, especially the J21, a Saab 92 also finds its place there and is part of a popular attraction as well as an absolute eye-catcher. The Saab plane can also be climbed and the interior offers space for two young pilots.

Built in the public park Spiköns, the authentic venue is located on one of the peninsulas and can be reached at any time on foot or by boat along the adjacent river Göta älv at the Spiköns Café. Numerous parking spaces can be found on the other side of the park and combine the visit with a nice walk along Strandgatan.

Over the years, the model of the 92 has changed and been refurbished from time to time. So we would like to share with you not only a travel recommendation, but also the current state of the "Flygmotor", as it is called at the top of the hanger behind it.

At the foot of the seemingly endless body of water, next to the idyllic bays of the multi-faceted flora and fauna around Lake Vänern, the town of Trollhättan has numerous other highlights in store for young and old and is well worth a visit!
