Report on the 49th Buckel Volvo Meet in Bad Doberan from May 29, 2025, to June 1, 2025
This year, the 49th Buckel Volvo Meet took place in Bad Doberan, organized this time by Maria and Hans-Dieter Kleine. Fifty fans of these quaint old-timers arrived in the cathedral town with 29 vehicles built between 1950 and 1967. The participants arrived at the NP Hotel Wittenbeck on May 29, 2025. Despite the long journey from Switzerland and southern Germany, all vehicles made it to the Baltic Sea under their own power.
On Friday, May 30, 2025, the convoy headed for the monastery grounds in Bad Doberan. The first item on the day's program was a tour of Doberan Minster with a special guided tour of the attic and the belfry above the church vault. Here, they learned a great deal about the history and construction techniques of the Cistercian monks.
After a reception by the mayor of Bad Doberan, Mr. Jochen Arenz, the participants were able to enjoy coffee and cake in the soup kitchen of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Bad Doberan.
Afterwards, the group visited the monastery's bakery watermill, which has been rebuilt according to historical models. It was put into operation for this day by members of the Bad Doberan Monastery Association, Mr. Firzlaff and Mr. Fourmont, by damming the Doberaner Wallbach stream.
In the afternoon, the group traveled along Bäderstraße to Warnemünde, 18 km away, to board the excursion boat “Warnow Star” at the “Alter Strom” for a tour of the Rostock overseas port.
Afterwards, the participants had the opportunity to explore Warnemünde on their own, enjoy fish sandwiches, and relax on the beach. After a short walk through the grounds of the 2009 Federal Horticultural Show, the participants reached the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Schwerin Castle.

In the evening, the day was rounded off with the traditional quiz for the challenge cup, which was donated last year by Sabine and Holger Willuhn. The Stentenbach family from Nordhorn answered 11 of the 12 questions correctly, winning this year's quiz and the cup.
Fortunately, Mechthild and Günter Mero agreed, to the applause of all Volvo enthusiasts, to host the next meeting in Paderborn in 2026.
On Sunday, June 1, 2025, after saying their goodbyes, the participants left the hotel to begin their journey home or extend their vacation.
