A Gathering of Old Swedish Carriages and Heathland Carriages
Alternating between the Fulda and Northern Germany regions, this year’s destination for the 240 and 260 drivers was the Lüneburg Heath. And they came from far and wide, as was evident at first glance from their license plates: from all parts of Germany, as well as the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, and even Spain.
The meeting point was the Heiderose, where the first participants arrived as early as Friday and then, after breakfast at the hotel on Saturday, May 30, 2026, welcomed the arriving Volvos. It is a close-knit community that remains loyal to this model series, which embodies Volvo’s qualities like almost no other. At every gathering, new participants join the group; they are warmly welcomed and get to experience the variety of models in this series. The Swedish cars offered an interesting contrast to the numerous horse-drawn carriages inviting visitors to take a ride through the nature reserve. “There have never been so many carriages here before,” remarked one guest humorously as he strolled past the colorful line of Volvos on the hotel grounds.
The morning was all about reunions and sharing experiences and developments. After all, hidden under some of these hoods is a powerhouse that transforms the Volvo 200—which at first glance seems rather unassuming—into a “turbocharged” speedster.
The condition of the participating vehicles was consistently impressive and demonstrates their proverbial durability. Many of the six-digit odometers have clocked several hundred thousand kilometers and give the impression that they still have plenty of life left in them. For a brief moment, one Volvo came to a standstill—the water pump had failed. But among the 200-series drivers, that was no big deal: a water pump replacement in the parking lot—problem solved.
After a quick lunch snack, Karsten and Christiane Schwob welcomed the participants and handed out the roadbook. The raffle is also a tradition, with prizes from generous sponsors up for grabs. But no one goes home empty-handed, as everyone traditionally receives a well-stocked sponsor package. The bag from “Finck & Claus,” the Swedish Gifflar cinnamon buns from Pagen, gifts from SKANDIX, an issue of NORDIS, and the popular rally sign, which, as usual, was also sponsored by SKANDIX. Christiane created the “Heide-Drive 240/260 Edition,” a refreshing lavender-spearmint spray made from essential oils.

Thus well-equipped, the group set off on a tour through the picturesque Nordheide to “Der Schafstall,” a quaint farm café serving delicious homemade pies and cakes.
The evening revolved around a barbecue buffet, where the Volvo community could enjoy the early summer evening in the garden of the Heiderose. Those who wanted to spend another night in the heath village of Undeloh had the opportunity on Sunday to take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the vast Heide nature reserve.
Nearly 50 Volvos, ranging from the 242 to the 240 Turbo, accepted the invitation from Karsten Schwob, the founder of this gathering, and are already looking forward to the 22nd event, which will once again take place in the Fulda area.
