Replacement for the windshield molding on the Saab 9000
07.02.2025
Since the early 1970s, bonded windows have become more and more prevalent in vehicle construction. In addition to increased body rigidity, the advantages include faster assembly and a lower tendency to corrode because there is no longer any seal rubbing in the window frame.
But even with a bonded windshield, a seal or a set of moldings was usually glued to the windshield to keep the gap clean all around and to protect the windshield adhesive from UV radiation.
The same applies to the Saab 9000: the original design included a surrounding seal and a two-part molding glued to the windshield. These parts are inevitably destroyed when the windshield is cut out.
We had this set in our program until recently, but it was now sold out and a reproduction would have been quite expensive. That's why we checked on the disassembled car whether it was possible to convert to a more common one-piece seal. This solution is cheaper and is used more often; it is also faster and easier to install.
We glued the windshield with our new profile and then test-drove the car. Visually, the seal fits perfectly and seals the gap well; wind noise was not noticeable.
The new windshield seal for the Saab 9000 is now available in our shop under the number 1098780.
