Refresh Volvo 850, C70I, S70, V70I, V70XC

01.05.2017

Have you noticed? Our Volvo 850, C70 I, S70, V70 I and V70 XC, even though they are part of the normal street scene, are now between 17 and 25 years old and thus already belong to the youngtimers.

They accompany us to work every day, are loaded to the roof at the DIY store and tow trailers. We can always rely on them. But what about the little things, such as optical defects, that we have always wanted to take care of?

A rattling tailgate here, a broken fairing there - many of these details can be spruced up with little effort and new parts that are still available.

Enclosed we have prepared some suggestions on how you can give your darling a new shine.

Interior

For many, already defective: the turning handles and the lighting for the heating/air-conditioning control.

Defective and worn window lift switches are quickly replaced. On the Volvo 850 there are individual switches (1022242, 1023761). On the V70, the switch block is replaced (1012844, 1016395, 1057064). On the V70, the soft paint is peeling off the switches. The switch for the electric door mirror adjustment is the same (1025210).

The door handle shells on the 850 become greasy or cracked over time. Replacements are still available (1033497, 1033498, 1033499, 1033500).

Another typical problem is that the door panel on your Volvo 850 is loose, causing it to rattle or even fall off. Here, the holes for the retaining clips on the back of the core in the panel are usually damaged.
To solve this problem, we offer newly manufactured panel cores:

The drink holder in the armrest on the V70 breaks with frequent use, then the bottle falls through. The Cup holder (1030291) can also be bought separately.

After many kilometres, the print from the gear knob is no longer legible, the plastic becomes bacony (1029566, 1047918, 1027975).

Worn, slippery pedal rubbers can be replaced in a few simple steps:

On the Volvo 850, the die-cast operating rod from the glove compartment lock breaks and the glove compartment can no longer be opened. Our repair kit provides a remedy (1026384, 1026386).

On the 850 estate, the latch of the folding backrest of the rear seat wears out, the backrest rattles. At the moment the latch is still available as a new part, in the current version the same spare part fits for left and right (1065105).

On early Volvo 850s with airbags and on all 850s without airbags, the red belt buckle button (1034049) can be replaced individually.

If the buckle no longer stays at handle height and always drops down: A replacement belt stopper with 16 mm diameter (1015596) or with 8 mm diameter (1018778, 1034492) is simply inserted and makes buckling up comfortable again.

Trunk and tailgate

A perennial issue with all estate cars: the inner trim panel of the tailgate becomes loose and rattles. The repair kit (1005611) includes new metal clips and eyelets that reinforce the trim's brittle plastic!

The frame for the inner tailgate handle often breaks during disassembly and can be replaced (1016503, 1025438, 1030218, 1046773).

If the tailgate itself rattles rather than the interior trim, the plastic parts of the lock latch (1023094) may be worn.

The load compartment cover can be repaired with the handy "LaRA-fix" kit (1026691).

The gas springs for the partition grille (1021057) are wearing parts. When they are tired, the separator grid hangs down.

Gas springs for the tailgate itself are available in 3 qualities:

Exterior

The emblem from the radiator grille is damaged sooner or later. The repair sticker (1036548) offers a super repair option for the black emblem up to 1998. For vehicles from 1999 onwards, the emblem (1013904) is available as a complete replacement part.

The outer wiper strips on the side windows of the doors are shrinking and becoming brittle. Replacements are available for rear (1039011) and front (1039012).

A seal is fitted to the front edges of the rear doors. If the support (1028506, 1028505) is missing or damaged, the seal will stick out.

Dirt traps effectively protect the wheel arches from stone chips and rust:

The door warning lights are often damaged. The following items provide replacements:

The fuel filler door hinge (1014846, 1014742) is also quick to replace.
If the door slams shut unintentionally, the door catch hinges are worn (1016892, 1016893, 1016894).

By replacing a rusty tailpipe, you can greatly enhance the appearance of the vehicle. A detail that contributes significantly to the overall impression of the car.

On the Volvo 850 estate, the original tail lights are fading. The V70 I tail lights with white indicator can be retrofitted on the 850.

Excursus Technology

On the Volvo 850, a common problem: the wiping pattern of the front windscreen wipers is poor, the wipers "jump" or the wiper arms touch the bonnet when opening. If you can confirm this, the wiper blades are not to blame. The wiper arms are then bent in themselves. New wiper arms will solve the problem.

The puller (1042375) makes the job much easier and solves even stubborn cases.

Rear window: You can change the washer nozzle (1017717) and the spray washer valve (1022043 / 9178897) yourself. The shaft of the wiper motor seizes in the bearing bush, the bearing bush (1010958) must be replaced.

The sockets for the licence plate light on the V70, V70XC up to 2000 are not only included with the complete tailgate handle, but are also included with the seal of the tailgate handle (1021968).

Attention for the Volvo 850 until 1993! The ventilation of the engine control unit has a air filter (1007386) which should be replaced regularly - every 60,000 km. A clogged filter will cause the ECU to overheat.

If the suspension hooks from the exhaust - silencer break off, the exhaust can be reattached with the help of our repair parts:

You can carry out most of these repairs yourself without too much effort. You can also find installation instructions for many parts in our shop with illustrated instructions. You can browse through many other useful parts in the accessories section.
