Oil seals - The differences

09.01.2014

We would like to inform you that special installation instructions must be observed for shaft sealing rings in the modern design. (Manufacturer's specifications of the shaft seal industry for the installation of shaft seals of the new PTFE design).

Shaft sealing rings, as shown in figure B, must be installed "dry". In other words, grease or oil must not be applied under any circumstances (as is usually the case).

The sealing ring must be inserted with a precisely fitting assembly sleeve. In the case of sealing rings that are integrated in flanges or covers, the flange or cover must be screwed tight before removing the mounting sleeve. The mounting sleeve is included with most Teflon shaft sealing rings.

After mounting, the engine must not be started until the sealing lip has assumed its final shape on the shaft. The waiting time can be up to 8 hours under certain circumstances. The exact waiting time can be found in the manufacturer's instructions.

If the waiting time is not observed, the sealing ring will immediately start to leak again!

CAUTION:
The designs should not be substituted for each other. Use the type that is originally provided in the vehicle.
