New Exhaust Manifolds for the Volvo 240, 340, 360, 740, and 940

Exhaust manifolds for the Volvo “Redblocks” from 1975 onward have been a major issue in recent years. The automaker has been unable to supply them for quite some time, and they have never been available on the aftermarket.
Age, operating conditions, and corrosion have repeatedly caused cracks in the manifolds, especially in recent years. Of course, if there was enough material left, specialists could repair them, and we also carried remanufactured manifolds in our product line for a long time. Unfortunately, it’s now the case that parts suitable for overhaul are becoming extremely rare, and the market for usable used parts has been largely depleted. The flanges, which are rather weakly designed on the original part, are often simply too brittle for further use.
Thin flanges lead to manifold gaskets burning out quickly. Larger cracks in exhaust manifolds not only cause unpleasant noises but also result in a loss of power or confused engine control; in severe cases with some models, they can even lead to an exhaust odor in the passenger compartment.
A replacement was needed, so we found a suitable manufacturer and commissioned the manifolds based on the original design. An initial pre-production sample was delivered and installed; it fit perfectly and has already been driving around our region—and sometimes a bit farther—in a Volvo 240 for a few months.
Our manifolds feature design improvements to reduce the likelihood of cracking. The flanges connecting to the cylinder head—which are often thin and rusted—are significantly stronger and more durable in our manifolds. Furthermore, we’re able to offer the new manifolds at a very attractive price.
The time has come: The first shipment of manifolds for all 8-valve naturally aspirated engines from B19 to B230 has arrived. The new exhaust manifolds for the 240, 340, 360, 740, and 940 series are available in the shop under the part number 1103552.
