Mounting clips for the trim strips on the Volvo 850

21.08.2026

Trim strips are a standard feature on most older original passenger cars. Whether as a playful chrome strip in the 1960s or as a practical black bumper guard in the more recent past, without trim pieces many vehicles look like budget versions or even incomplete.

On the Volvo 850, the trim strips are attached to the vehicle using plastic clips that are inserted into drilled holes. This mounting method is a tradition for the automaker. A similar solution was already used on the PV444, though that model used wire clips. The advantage of modern plastic clips is obvious: depending on the design, the paint is scratched less—or not at all—and there is no corrosion damage.

Since an 850 with holes in the body side panel looks unsightly, we now have all three clip variants for the side trim strips on the doors and fenders custom-made in-house; the vehicle manufacturer no longer offers them.

The three different clips are now available under the part numbers 1033120, 1036734, and 1029501 in our shop. You can find the corresponding parts in the installation diagram.

A helpful tip from our workshop: Allow freshly painted surfaces to cure for at least two weeks before installing the trim strips. Treat each body hole all around with cavity wax before inserting the clips to prevent future corrosion.
