Lego Volvo XC90
20.07.2011A joint project between Volvo and Legoland California.
A Volvo XC90 made entirely of Lego bricks can be admired at Legoland California. In January 2004, two and a half months of hard work went into recreating the Lego Volvo XC90 for Legoland. The award-winning SUV was designed by three Lego designers at Lego North America's offices in Enfield, Connecticut, and recreated based on a real full-size Volvo XC90 vehicle chassis by a team of five.
A total of 201,076 bricks were used, with the interior remaining hollow due to the otherwise excessive weight. While the blue model weighing 1,330 kg can be admired by numerous visitors in the entrance area of Legoland California since 2004, another model in red was exhibited at various international car shows.
The Lego Volvo symbolises for Volvo and Legoland the common interest in driving safety. To convey this in a playful way, children from 3 to 13 years of age, as a big highlight, have the opportunity to get their Legoland driving licence in a Volvo driving school with electrically powered Lego vehicles.
For those who do not have the opportunity to see the Lego Volvo XC90 live in the USA, we have prepared a few more links to reports and videos below.
