Coolant temperature display with capillary tube

04.03.2019

On the Volvo Amazon and PV up to 1966, the original factory display had a scale up to 100°C.
In 1967, the closed cooling system with expansion tank at the radiator was introduced. Analogously, the scale of the temperature display was changed, it now reaches up to 120°C.

After the early 100 degrees gauge was no longer produced by the original supplier VDO, Volvo discontinued the item. Since then, only the version with the 120 degrees scale has been available! So in case of a defect, the vehicle should be converted to the display from 1967 onwards.

So that you can repair your vehicle true to the original, we have reissued the indicator with 100 degrees scale. It corresponds to the Volvo original number 659236 and is now available under article number 1047591 in our webshop.

Our newly manufactured display works technically just like the original from the 1960s.
The remote thermometer is operated by a so-called capillary tube. A flexible pipe filled with alcohol gas connects the measuring head screwed into the motor with the instrument. Simply put, the gas expands more or less depending on the temperature and actuates the pointer of the instrument.

This technique is also the reason why using a new part is always the best choice here. Over the years, the flexible lines leak, kink or break - the gas filling evaporates and the instrument is broken.

The pointer behaves exactly as Volvo intended.

For the new production we have orientated ourselves on the last available VDO version, the mounting plate for the scale is made of plastic.

SKANDIX 1047591 is suitable for the following vehicles:

  • Volvo Amazon 120, 130, 220 from 1959 onwards, from chassis number 15000-
  • Volvo PV544
  • Volvo P210 Duett
