Water pump

30.11.2021Frequently made mistake on mounting water pumps at the B18/B20 engines and a hint how to avoid. This hint also applies to the water pump of younger Volvo-models with the B19/B23/B200/B230 engines.
This water pump was pulled with the seal and set screws under the cylinder head to the block.
So the sealing rings which seal to the cylinder head were crushed.
This can quickly lead to leaks.
Set the pump with the screw on the upper left side. Press the water pump with a suitable tool into the edge between the cylinder head and the block, then set the other screws. A helpful tool against slipping of the paper seal is fixing it with liquid sealant on the pump or the block.
It is also helpful to use silicone oil for the sealing rings. So you better can pull the pump into her position without damaging the rings.
