Hint for the sealing of the selector shaft with our repair kit which releases the original parts. This avoids the removing and disassembling of the gearbox.

At this gearbox type the sealing of the selector shaft is often leaky if the car is a little bit older.
In the advanced state the oil leaks quickly because the selector shaft is on the bottom side of the gearbox.
This leads to unbeautiful oil spills and transmission failures.
This is easy to do with our repair kit, you don`t have to remove an disassemble the gearbox. Using the original parts you have to do this.
Using our repair kit he original sleeve on the sealing ring is inapplicable, it won`t fit anymore.
Before you begin to repair, you have to get transmission fluid and the gaskets for the oil drain and fill plugs.
If you won`t open the drain plug, most of the oil would leak at the selctor shaft out of the gerbox. I recommend to open the oil drain plug.
Therefore you need two dimensions of a special wrench. (Skandix 1068179).
The oil fill plug is in front of the gearbox, th drain plug is on the bottom side beside the selector shaft.

Before draining the oil you better unscrew the oil fill plug. If you can`t open the fill plug, you won`t get the new oil into the gearbox.
Now unscrew the drain plug.
Then unlock the gear lever out of the link which is mounted in the gearbox housing. The locked screw may be in a sleeve behind the gearbox.

Remove the lock spring placed over the bearing washer of the link (Pic. 2).

Lever the bearing washer with the link out of it`s seating and remove it.

Pull the link out of the sleeve and put it aside.

Pull off the sleeve and put it aside.

Unscrew the spring resistor, remove it with the spring and lay the parts aside.

Remove the sleeve from the selector shaft sealing. Pull the sealing ring out of it`s seat. Therefore I used a puller for wiper arms (Skandix 1042375). If you want to use such a puller, you have to engage a gear for it.

For removing the sealing ring you have to cut it, with wire pliers for example.

Now clean the selector shaft, lever and bushing carefully. They should be free from oil and dirt.
After this, spray it all a little with silicone oil.
Take the sealing rings from the repair kit and slip them over the lever on the selector shaft. Strech them as less as possible and use silicone oil.

Take the half-shells from the repair kit and set them with the notches on the sealing rings. Push them into the bushing, if it is not easy to do, you have to trim the half shells a little bit.
You can use a little bit of thin liquid seal like Hylomar for the contact areas of the half shells.
It`s not really necessary.

Now put the u-shaped assembling aid on the half shells. Change the gearbox into the neutral position.

Now push the half-shells with a hammer on the selector shaft in their seating.
Therefore it`s essential that the gerbox is in neutral position!
If the overlaying edge is laying directly on the cast, the position is correct.
Remove the assembling aid.

Now set the spring and the spring resistor with the locking plate from the repair kit.
This prevents the half shells slipping out of their seat additionally.

The remaining assembly occures in reserved order. The sleeve on the selector shaft is not applicable. If you would mount it, you can`t go to reserve.
Dont`t forget to fill the gearbox with oil.
The correct oil-level ist at the lower edge of the  oil fill borehole
Clean the bearing points and the bushing of the link and put some grease on it.
