Seal Vent Window

23.11.2021How to replace the ventilation window seals at the Volvo Amazon from 1962.
Worn seal.
Some parts of the old seal have already fallen apart.
To remove the vent windows detach the head of the rivet.
Rivet without head.
Fix the hinge of the window in a vice...
...and use a drift punch to remove the rest of the rivet.
Now the upper mounting point should be separated.
Loosen the nut at the bottom end of the window.
Remove spring and washer.
Now the you can just pull out the window to the top.
Attention: watch the spring washers!
To detach the old seal completely..
... drill out the rivets using an 8mm drill.
Remove the seal.
Remove the rest of the rivets
Use new rivets to connect the frameparts.
Turn the frame around and put it on a vise, don´t damage it!
Expand the rivets.
Flaten the rivet heads.
We recommend to fix the new seal with adhesive.
Carefully attach the seal to the frame.
Press the seal evenly against the frame.
Put the window back into the frame.
Reassemble washers...
... and springs.
