Run-in guidelines for rebuild engines Volvo B18/B20
22.01.2025Before the engine will be started first time, it should be cranked without spark plugs to allow oil pressure to build up.
1) After starting the engine first time, check for any oil or coolant leaks!
2) Run the engine up to operating temperature
3) Allow the engine to cool down completely
4) Tighten the cylinder head. To do this, remove the valve cover and rocker arm shaft.
Loosen cylinder head bolts individually and retighten to a torque of 90 Nm.
Tightening sequence: Crosswise from the inside to the outside.
Check valve clearance: 0.40-0.45 mm all valves for single carburettor engines
0.50-0.55 mm all valves for twin carburettor and injection engines.
5)Change oil and oil filter after 500 km
6)After 1000 km oil and oil filter change. The engine should not be fully loaded or revved for the first 1000 km so that it can run in. After that, it can gradually be fully loaded.
