Replacing the shift knob

Instructions for replacing the leather gear knob on the Saab 9-5 (-10).

New leather shift knob, SKANDIX item no. 1057548.

Many shift knobs in older Saab 9-5 look like this.

The old gear knob must be sawn in with a hacksaw.

Attention: Do not damage the surrounding fairings or the gear stick!

When you have cut deep enough, you can now pull off the gear knob with some force.

The shift boot is pulled off too.

Remove the old shift knob from the boot.

Put on the new shift knob. Pay attention to the plastic guides and notches!

Put the gear knob straight on.

Protect the gear knob with a piece of cardboard or something similar and carefully pound it onto the gear lever.

Assemble the boot - done!
