The explanation for the frequent question how to change the catch strap from the fuel cap on many younger Volvo models.

Unhook the catch strap from the fuel door and remove the tank cap together with the catch strap.

At the tank cap two plastic pins become visible with which the strap is fastened to the cap.

Use a small Torx or Phillips screwdriver (max. 2mm diameter) to push the pins slightly forward from the bottom side.

If they have come loose, you can press the pins through from the inside on a table edge or similar with a 2mm drill. They only need to be pushed through until they are just inside the top of the fastener.

When both are pressed through, the catch strap can be removed.

Insert the new catch strap into the tank cap. If the pins have been pushed through too far and have fallen out, a telephone plier or tweezers will help to reattach them.

Lost pins can be replaced e.g. by mini cable ties.

A small water pump pliers is best suited for pushing the pins through. Be careful when pushing them through, the pins deform quite easily.

Now the fuel cap can be hooked back on the tank cap with the new strap without getting lost!
