Repair kit front bumper bracket

Volvo 200 81-

30.11.2021

Fitting instructions for our repair kit bumper bracket. Some owners of a 200 Volvo have experienced it: The knurled bolts of the bumper carrier can rot out of the carrier due to contact corrosion. Road salt and the combination steel/aluminum will provide a diligent reaction at this point over the years without you noticing anything - until it`s too late.

Unscrew the front bumper completely from the impact absorbers and remove it with the carrier. In case the knurled bolts turn, clamp the assembly lever or crowbar between the impact absorber and the carrier to fix the bolts. If the contact corrosion is very advanced, the knurled bolts will quickly tear out completely. Then you can unscrew them from the impact absorbers with pliers and wrench. Unscrew the screws of the bumper skin at the bottom, then unhook the skin at the top. Now clean and derust the impact absorbers and paint or preserve them afterwards. Also the carrier and the bumper skin should be cleaned thoroughly to avoid scratches.

Insert the repair part into the holes in the bumper bracket. Please refer to the plastic bars in the bumper skin for correct positioning. These later fit exactly into the slots of the repair part.

The rubber pad is placed between the bumper bracket and the repair part. If necessary fix it with some grease or glue.

Now insert the carrier back into the outer skin and place it over the studs of the repair plate.

Hook the bumper skin back onto the top of the carrier and screw it at the bottom.

If everything is correctly fitted, the bumper is now ready for assembly again. Locknuts and matching large washers are included in the repair kit, so there is no need to use old parts during assembly.
