Heater Valve Kit

Please be aware of different cars and their characteristics when replacing the heater valve.

Cars with auxiliary heating up to model year 1991


Clamping the heater hoses.

  • open the bonnet
  • suspend the heating circuit using hose clamps

Prepare to empty the cooling fluid in the car (left side).

  • acoustic insulation on the lft side
  • side cover of the center stack
  • air duct to the heater box
  • cover the throttle (LHD cars)

Put a container unter the connectors of the heater hoses to catch the water.


Remove heater valve and parts of the fixation.

  • clamps (A)
  • hoses (B), first remove the lower hose
  • screws holding the valve (C)
  • heater valve (D)

Cutting:

  • cut off the unnecessary parts of the valve´s ground plate

Bending the heater cable:

  • turn the regulator to the stop in cold position
  • use strong pliers to hold the cable
  • bend it like shown in the picture

Installation of the new valve and hoses:

  • mount the new parts as shown in the picture
  • do not finally fix the clamps

Attach heating cable to the water valve 
Insert:
  • Heating cable through the hole in the regulator arm

Secure the heater cable in the clamp (A) so that the valve fully opens when the regulator is set to maximum and fully closes when it is at minimum.

Attention: The regulator arm can break off very easily and must therefore be handled with extreme caution.

Install water valve and hoses in vehicle attach / connect:
  • New valve and hoses in the vehicle. Turn the hoses to the correct position.
  • Route hose (A) to opening and hose (B) to heater. Tighten hose clamps.

Remove the clamps from the heating hoses in the engine compartment.

Check:
  • Coolant level.
  • Function of the heater with the engine running.
  • Watch for leaks.
Reinstall components.
Remove:
  • Vessel and rag from the vehicle interior.
Replacing / re-insert:
  • Soundproofing on the left side.
  • Side cover of center console.
  • Floor mat (cover).
  •  Ventilation ducts to the heater housing.
  • Cover next to the gas pedal (only with left control).


Remove water valve and bracket:
  • Heating cable from the valve.
  • Valve and capillary tube from the bracket.
  • Holder from heater housing (pull to left).
  • Support (A) between body and heater.

Remove valve and heater cable:
The hoses in the engine compartment must be disconnected with hose pliers.
  • Disconnect hose (A) from heater with hose clamp in vehicle next to valve.
  • Release hose clamps (B) and remove valve (C) and hose.
  • Remove heating cable (D) from the heating control (E).

Attach a new cable to the valve:
  • Turn the mounting bracket (A) 90 ° to the left.
  • Pull the cable between the heater housing and the radio compartment and through the hole (B) of the heater mounting.
Execute operation A7.

Insert new cable.
  • fix: Train at the heating control.

Assembly of bracket, hose, valve, foam piece and hose holder.
  • Foam piece (A) and hose holder (B) on the holder.
  • Hose from the heater to the valve. Tighten hose clamp.
  • Hose on the bracket.
  • Close valve and remove hose pliers.

Caution: If the valve is not connected, coolant may escape from the heater.


Attach bracket and valve
  • Insert holder (A) into the groove of the heater and secure with clamp (B).
  • Bend back the mounting tab (C).

Fit new hose and replace support.
  • New hose (A) between feedthrough opening and water valve.
  •  Support (B) between body and heating.

Remove the hose pliers Perform operations A9, A10 and A11.

Replacement for vehicles with air conditioning from model year 1992


Disconnect heating hoses
Perform operations A1 and A2.
Expose bracket and valve
  • Remove the support (D) from the mounting bracket (C) by loosening the fixing screw (A) and removing the screw (B).
  • Turn mounting tab (C) 90 ° to the left.
  • Bend the two stops (E) down and pull the retainer (F) and valve 30 mm to the left.

Remove heating cable from valve.
  • Carefully pull the heating sleeve retaining clip (A) to the left until the pull can be pulled out of the regulator arm.

Attention: The regulator arm can break easily and must be handled with extreme caution.

  • To do this, disconnect the hose from the heater with hose pliers and loosen the hose clamp.
