Frame, Radiator grill

Volvo P1800, P1800ES

30.11.2021

Note on the installation of our frame for the radiator grille on the Volvo P1800E and P1800ES.

On P1800 and P1800S, the radiator grille frame is bolted to the body with self-tapping screws. Then sheet metal nuts are pushed onto the four perforated lugs and the radiator grille is screwed on from the outside.

On the P1800E and ES, the original plastic radiator grille is mounted differently:

It is held in the frame with 8 spring plate clips (Skandix 1022607). For this purpose, the retaining cutouts in the radiator grille must be able to look inwards beyond the frame. They are blocked by the retaining clips for the screws.

In order to use the Skandix 1007400 frame for these vehicles, the retaining brackets must either be removed or bent over. In order not to damage the frame when bending it over, it should be mounted beforehand.

Then, from behind, clamp wooden wedges or small boards above or below the point to be bent into the front mask and bend the retaining straps backwards.

Now the radiator grille can be easily mounted with the spring plate clips and fits just as precisely as the old original part.

If you want to remove the mounting brackets, it is best not to use an angle grinder. If you do, tape everything around it. Otherwise the sparks would burn into the chrome surface and lead to unsightly corrosion spots.
