17.02.2026To answer the question that sometimes arises during a restoration as to how the door seal profile should be fitted, here is a clear answer for several classic Volvo models. The profile is shaped very similarly on all of them.
Example image: The rear left door of an Volvo 121. On all vehicles mentioned, the seal fitted to the door must point towards the interior with the high lip.
The following picture shows the door seal in the profile.
The low side (A) points outwards towards the door. The higher side with the sealing lip (B) points inwards towards the vehicle interior.
The Volvo PV or humpback Volvo is a small exception to the profile shape, but here too the higher side must point inwards.
