Converting to LED bulbs - Volvo V40

02.03.2026Changing the bulbs in new vehicles is not always self-explanatory. We show how to change the low beam bulb step by step on a Volvo V40 model year 2013.
Changing the low beam (converting to LED bulbs)
First remove the headlight... that sounds worse than it really is.
Loosen the retaining pin anti-clockwise...
...and take it out.
Use a Torx screwdriver (T30) to remove the screw.
After some careful shaking back and forth you can pull the headlight out to the front.
Tip: To make it easier to remove the headlight, remove the bumper from the bonnet if necessary.
Disconnect the plug from the housing.
Press the safety hooks together and remove the cover.
Remove the plug from the lamp socket.
You can remove the bulb by pressing lightly upwards.
Insert new bulb and reassemble in reverse order.
Finally, affix the sticker clearly visible - as shown here - to the top of the headlight.
Changing parking lights (converting to LED bulbs)
Loosen the base of the parking light bulb.
Remove the lamp base.
Replace the bulbs.
Adapter for retrofit light bulbs to bypass lamp failure detection.
The resistor is connected between PIN 1 and PIN 10.
Left:
PIN 10: BK-YE (black/yellow)
PIN 1: YE-BU (yellow/blue)
PIN 10: BK-GY (black/grey)
PIN 1: BN-YE (brown/yellow)
Expose the plug of the headlight and remove a strip of insulating tape.
Fit the supplied cable taps.
Press the cable taps together until they click into place.
Connect the supplied cables to the cable taps and ensure that they are firmly seated. Then attach the resistor to a suitable metal part in the vicinity using the cable tie.
