Brake Drum Puller

Volvo 121, PV, P1800

10.12.2021

SKANDIX "Heavy-Duty" puller for loosening the brake drum on the rear axle with a hammer blow. The puller excellently loosens stuck brake drums on the rear axles of serviced PV, Amazon and P1800. Of course, this does not apply to vehicles that have not received maintenance for decades. If the wheel hubs on the quick-release axles are properly rusted, they can sometimes only be detached from the quick-release axle by cutting the drum and hub. If the puller is used to excessive force, there is a risk of damage to the tool or the quick-release axle in such cases!

Release the brake adjuster. Attention, different types of adjusters are existing, so the way to release it may be different.

Remove cotter pin, castle nut and spacer between nut and drum.

Screw the castle nut back onto the drive shaft until it sits flush with the shaft. This will prevent the shaft from being compressed by the puller.

Put the puller on the wheel bolts.

Now screw the wheel nuts back on the bolts...

... and tighten them until stop.

Knock with a hammer against the puller to detach the drum (clockwise).

Remove the wheel nuts...

... and take away the puller.

Remove the castle nut.

Now you can easily pull off the brake drum.
