Measuring the diameter of brake discs
16.01.2024In the following we show you how to measure the diameter of your break rotors correctly. Unfortunately it is often not possible to determine the diameter of the brake rotors with the VIN number. The difference between the different diameters is that big, you do not have to measure with a millimeter-level accuracy.
Lift the vehicle and remove one wheel on the relevant axle. The brake disc can now be measured easily.
Even if you only have folding rule, that is good enough. You only have to hold it smoothly and parallel to the brake disc. Read off the measurement result with your view parallel to the maximum diameter.
Large callipers are more precise and easier to read off. Do not use a special brake disc calliper, its measuring range is too small since it is made only for measuring the thickness of the disc.
