At models with AC it is recommended to use the Heavy Duty timing gears, item no. 1017467.
The pulley that drives the A/C compressor (pump) comes off the balance shaft. This puts addtional side loading on the balance shaft and gear and the phenlic gear will soon break. This problem was encountered by Saab in the USA on the A/C equipped V4 models in the early 1970's. Saab's fix, was to install a steel balance shaft gear that could withstand the addtional side loading. The steel gears were installed by the USA Saab dealers on all A/C equipped V4 cars.
