Multilink 2 rear axle bushings for Volvo 960, S90 and V90 from 1995 onwards

The last large rear-wheel drive Volvo is the elaborately designed 960, which rolled off the production line in 1997 as the S90 and V90. At first glance, it looks like a facelift of the 940, but with its four-valve six-cylinder engine and multi-link rear axle, it is almost a completely different car. From 1995 onwards, very few parts were shared with the four-cylinder 940.

Not that the 940 was a bad car – quite the contrary. But the robust rigid axle, which was already complex to manufacture, had the design disadvantage of high unsprung masses. This made itself felt from time to time on poor roads.

This is completely different in the 960 with its multilink rear axle, which offers outstanding ride comfort and, thanks to its complex design, precise tracking and camber stability.

Combined with the purring six-cylinder engine, this results in a high level of driving comfort paired with Volvo's typical solidity. We are now even aware of six-cylinder engines with seven-digit mileage!

However, with increasing age, the sophisticated Multilink 2 rear axle of the 960 also tends to have a problem: when an overhaul was due, finding the right bushings became a game of patience in recent years. After all, the Multilink 2 has twenty-six bushings in fourteen different designs. In most cases, one or more bushings were not available, and it was not uncommon to have to call authorized dealers to check their stock or search for NOS parts on the parts market.

Added to this are the cross leaf spring supports and the spring travel limiters, as well as a whole host of screws. Some people took a year to get everything together.
Due to the relatively low production numbers of the 960, virtually no suspension bushings were available from accessory dealers.

We have been working for several years to offer a complete range of parts for the rear axle of the 960, S90, and V90. All of the bushings are now available. Only a small number of parts are purchased from other suppliers; most are now manufactured in-house.

We also have matching spring travel limiters, supports for the transverse leaf spring, and the transverse leaf spring itself manufactured.

A complete overhaul of the Multilink 2 rear axle is therefore possible again without long waiting times or logistical feats. So that Volvo's last big rear-wheel drive car will continue to roll confidently for decades to come.
