Pulley crankshaft for Saab 900 (-1993)
30.05.2025
The crankshaft pulley has more than one job. Of course, its primary function is to transfer power from the engine to the V-belts for the auxiliary units. To prevent these from being damaged by engine vibrations, the pulley has contained a vibration damper made of a rubber-like material between the hub and the pulleys for several decades. This dampens vibrations caused by the combustion cycle and thus prevents damage to the alternator, servo pump, and other components.
After a certain age, the vibration damper often becomes a problem. The vulcanization deteriorates with age and, depending on environmental influences, can also rust through. The rust then literally blows it off and, in the worst case, the hub spins in the belt pulley and nothing moves.
Furthermore, such a pulley can of course also become stuck on the crankshaft and be destroyed when it needs to be removed. With the wrong puller or too much force, this can sometimes happen quite quickly. A leaky shaft seal or the necessary timing chain replacement are sufficient reasons for this.
The pulleys have long been unavailable as original parts. Since a pulley like this naturally immobilizes the entire car when it is defective, we did not hesitate for long and ordered a reproduction based on the original model. We tested the pulley on the disassembled engine and in the vehicle. It fits perfectly and the workmanship corresponds to the original part.
The belt pulley with vibration damper is now available in our shop under the number 1004123.
