Wiper mechanism for the rear window of Volvo station wagons 700, 900 and V90
21.02.2025
The wiper mechanism in the tailgates of Volvo station wagons in the 700 and 900 series has been known to be a weak point for quite some time. The bearing of the wiper shaft occasionally eats through incoming dirty water and becomes sluggish. This causes the wiper to slow down at some point because the motor is under excessive load.
If you don't notice this now and replace the linkage, you can usually still look forward to a defective motor. This is not able to withstand the load in the long term and will eventually suffer a winding short circuit due to the heat build-up.
Of course, this doesn't happen in the normal lifespan of a car, but our Volvos are known to last a little longer than others. And after more than twenty-five years, a little dirt and water has found its way in. The seal of the wiper shaft is also no longer new and is usually somewhat porous and brittle. That wouldn't even be so bad if the shaft were regularly lubricated with oil and grease to protect it. But what car owner worries about a part that is actually maintenance-free?
The wiper linkage was dropped by the car manufacturer last year without replacement. Due to the still high demand, we didn't think twice about pushing ahead with a reproduction.
After all, we want to be able to continue driving our own 940, 960 and 740 in the rain. Even if the rear wiper doesn't play a crucial role in this, the wonderful visibility of these cars is significantly impaired in the rain without it.
The wiper linkage for the great station wagons is now available in our shop under the number 1021757.
