Overdrive switch conversion kit for Volvo 200, 700 and 900

19.07.2024

This switch is located on the Volvo 200, 700 and 900 with M46 gearbox at the top on the side of the gearbox cover.

It "tells" the overdrive gearshift that fourth gear is engaged and the overdrive can be engaged. If the NO contact is not actuated by the shift gate in the transmission, the overdrive cannot be engaged either. It is a protective device for the overdrive; it would not be able to withstand the torque in the lower gears and would be destroyed immediately when reverse gear is engaged.

Unfortunately, this button has not been available from the vehicle manufacturer for some time. If it is defective, the car will only drive in the four gears of the mechanical gearbox.

Given the number of vehicles still in existence in which an M46 with this button is installed, it was only natural for us to look for a solution. We found a suitable button, all we had to do was lay a short additional cable:

From the original single-pole push-button, the connected contact was switched to vehicle ground, i.e. to the push-button housing. This is not the case with our two-pole switch, which is why one connection must be connected to earth with the enclosed cable. This works very well, for example, on the screws of the gearbox cover.

This restores the full function of the protective circuit and the overdrive can be switched on again as usual.

The switch kit is now available in our store under the number 1093633.

Suitable for the following vehicles:
