Volvo 940

A little more background on the car (for those, that are interested); I am the 3rd owner, and the car has served all it’s life in Finland, almost 17 years. Despite the winters, salted roads etc, the car is in excellent condition, as seen in the pictures. And yes, the car truly has been driven 345.000 kms. I will also send a picture of the dashboard, where you can actually see 338.531 km as the mileage. I have driven ~7000 kms more, since the picture was taken. I measured, cut and weaved the leather on the steering wheel myself. It doesn’t look exactly like the original, it has 3 (cross-spoke) seams, instead of 2 on the factory leather wheel, but it’s close enough. I’m still proud of how it came out.

In the dashboard picture you can not see the air conditioning buttons. This is because the car was delivered from factory without air conditioning. It was installed at the Import service as factory accessory, it has different button layout. The buttons are located in the dashboard, behind the steering wheel.

The car has never been out of commission (uninsured), not even for repairs. It has never failed an MOT check. The car has been serviced thoroughly all it’s life, it has 3 full service books as proof of this. Paintwork is also original! The car does not have any rust, even under the car. Automatic gearbox (Aisin-Warner, 3+OD) has never been opened for overhaul, still shifts like new and doesn’t slip on any gear. Partly because the transmission fluid and filter have been changed every 40.000 kms.

Everything on the car works, every last little electrical system, window winders, heaters, air conditioning and so on. Well honestly, this is not true; both of the heated side mirror glasses have broken heater wires (the only fault in the car), but I ordered new mirror glasses from the skandix shop earlier this week, so by Christmas everything will be as good as new!

Many people have asked about the black wheels; are they original? Yes. They were not originally on this particular car, but they are Volvo’s own Pulsar rims and have been made 1995, so they are correct for this car, originally they were optional wheels for 700/900 series. Wheels were originally silver, the previous owner had them powder-coated dark grey, for extra durability and easier cleaning.

My plan is to keep the car in this condition and some day register it as a classic car. In Finland, this means that the car has to be 29 years old, so I still have a lot of years left. I think it’s not a problem, for 3 reasons; 1 – it’s a Volvo, they last forever! 2 – it will only be driven on dry days and less than 5.000 kms per year. 3 – it will be driven at least once a month for a longer distance, to keep the transmission, engine and electrics in a fault-free condition - it is very important.
